NUS ROVERS CAMP- JUNTOS 2007!!
NUS Rovers is a lot like ODAC, but it's not so hiong and closely knitted as Rovers. Definitely on to join rovers after this camp. Yup.
Anyway, my group was called Ondeh Ondeh, which was weird cos the rest of the orientation groups had more exotic names. But I loved my og a lot! There were 5 girls and 5 guys in total, and we were not at all cliquish. Which was good! Cos everything that we did, we did it together and we were all able to click with each other.
On the 1st day, we reported at NUS Multi Purpose Sports Hall. We had the usual ice-breakers and station games. One of the ice-breakers game was called ouch ouch! And indeed it was so painful!! This game would start with a person calling out someone’s name, then the 2 people sitting on either side of that person would beat his thighs till he calls out another person’s name. I was seated between 2 guys and one of them slapped my right thigh so hard till I got blue black! Sob sob! Very ugly! Then we had lunch and then we took a bus to clementi where there was this secret unused railway track. My group took a lot of photos and we played the traffic light game. Got a lot of variations de! Red= attached, green=single and available, amber=it’s complicated. Then got ever green-= which means never attached. 3 of the 5 guys and 2 of the 5 girls in my group were never attached! Haha.
We had 9 OGLS in total, 2 were from the Rovers Exco ( both were girls, they din really interact much with us ) and the 3 were adhoc OGLs (they did not stick with us for the entire duration of the camp) and the other 4 were with us for the whole camp.
The cluedo game was quite funny. The exco acted out a few scenes and the king was murdered so we were supposed to guess the murderer and the weapons used and how the king was murdered. Quite lame too.
We had the choo choo train trek and we trekked through this trail and it was so muddy!! My sandals were very muddy after the whole trek. The guys in my OG were really good, they really helped us a lot during the trek and made sure that we were ok. Then there was this game that we played, it’s called the tunnel game. Basically there was this muddy trail in the tunnel which was pretty dark, and we had to pair ourselves (guy and girl) and tie our ankles together and walk on the trail to the middle of the tunnel, retrieve a light stick and then walk back. FYI, only 1 guy in my group was taller than me by 6cm and 2 were 10cm shorter than me and the other 2 were slightly shorter than me. Like they were about 170cm tall. I think I was the tallest girl in my group. Yup so I was paired with that guy for the rest of the couple games and it made me realized how much difference it makes to date a taller guy rather than a shorter guy. It’s really nice lor, that means that I can look up to that guy all the time.
After the trek, I rushed down to church for a very important event so I missed the Secret Pal game, so sad! I heard from my friends that they were blindfolded and led to many different locations and the other OGLs all tekan them! Like one OGL made mewing sounds and my friend thot that there was really a cat and she was so freaked out during the whole SP game. And then one of my group mates had tooth paste smeared on her body. So evil lor!!
I got back to East Coast Park, which was our 1st camp site. We had night cycling where we could choose 3 different check points( don’t have to clear all, at least one). My og chose to do 1 checkpoint and we went to Simpang and had really good Indian food. Then it was back to ECP and we had to bathe!! Me and this girl in our group, Pui Ser were having our menses so we wanted to bathe in a more comfortable place. So we decided to sneak into Costa Sands Resort. However the back gate was locked and it being 2am plus, we knew that we would not be allowed to enter by the main entrance, so we decided to climb gates. We were really lucky, there was 1 chalet unit that was occupied and there were 3 guys, about 10 years older than us. We asked them the fastest way to get into the resort and they told us it was by the main entance. So we asked them if they could help us to climb over the side gate. And they were really nice! They threw a chair and took our stuff over and they helped us over. And they din do anything funny to us too. So me and Pui Ser had hot water to bathe and we had the whole toilet to ourselves. This was the most memorable thing in the whole camp. Haha.
The next day, we went to our next camp site which was at Pasir Ris park. Then after loading our stuff there, we went to kayak. We kayaked 10km and me and my partner were really good! Not boasting or anything la, but we were always ahead of the other pairs and we were very near the expedition leader. I got sunburnt during kayaking. I put sunblock on everywhere except my neck! So now there’s an ugly red patch on my neck. Bleah. And my arms are red, like a lobster, hurts a lot! And my thighs are unevenly burnt too, cos of the way we sat in the kayak, we had to sit with our legs in a diamond way. Then we had a mass game, which was a telematch and we got wet and dirty. And we threw our OGLs into the sea! And we also tau pok 2 of them. Tau pok means that the person who kernas has to lie flat on the ground and the rest will just throw themselves on top of them. It was so funny!!
Then we had some SP time, which was the 1st time that I met my SP. He had a low and distinct voice, the kind of voice that Jonathan has. He sounds very eloquent. He told me that he was from ACJC. And he could guess how tall I was cos we played this group game where we had our backs to each other, our hands interlinked and we had to move a balloon from ourselves to the next pair. I was lucky that he was a bit taller than me cos the whole SP thing was done randomly so some girls were paired with guye shorter than them. And my SP could guess who I was! Which was so unfair cos I could not guess who he was! When I told him that I was from NJ, he knew my identity straight away. Arrgh. But I din manage to talk to him much, so sad rite! Oh, my alias was Mrs Invisible and he was Mr Fantastic.
We had Amazing Race the next day and it was really very slack. My group’s motto became, “ Don’t be last.” We chose to have fun and enjoy ourselves during this camp so we did not chiong during the whole race. And we could choose not to go to all the check points! Then during the race, it rained heavily so we were stuck at Parliament house and we played those kind of qian bian games. Like the MRT game. And I felt so anal and so duh cos I was always one of the last to figure out the answer! I’ll test you all the next time I see you guys. Haha. Then after amazing race, we went to Changi Village and we took the ferry to Pulau Ubin, our final campsite. We had field cooking and we cooked really yummy food!! And one of our OGLs was really good, he helped us to cook luncheon meat omelette. YUMMY! We then had campfire and SP revelation.
My SP was this guy, his build is a bit like Sean, big sized cos he’s pretty muscular and he won the “nicest abs of the camp” award!! And he could do this flapping thing with his stomach muscles. This is kinda cool but weird at the same time. It’s like his abs could do the kallang wave or something like that. Yup. Then we exchanged gifts, he gave me this bag which I could keep my shoes in and a smaller pouch for cosmetics etc. My group people say this gift was quite auntie but oh well. Practical la. I gave him a boxing glove massage stick from mini toons. But the sad thing is that he took down my hp number but I din have my hp with me! So could not take down his number. Haa. Till date, he still has not messaged me yet, which he promised to do so after his QET. ( qualifying English test ). Ya, he and 22 other people had to leave the camp on the last night cos they had to take their QETs. So din get to talk as long as I wanted to. My SP’s ok looking, he’s Eurasian. Yup.
My group had 4 guys and 2 girls and 4 OGLs left so we all went to this pavilion and talked from 12am to 5am plus. We had talked a lot! Like about our love lives, our exes, what we look for in our partners and our first and final impressions about the people in our group. The guys in my group all said that their 1st impression of me was that I was tall, and some of them thought that I was the rich and haughty kind. And some 2 of them said that they thought I was the glamorous kind. And they felt that I looked like the I not Stupid girl, the one who acted as Terry’s sister. So funny! But they said that after getting to know me better after the camp, their impression changed, they said that I was caring ( would make a good sister), I am very approachable and opened up easily to people, very nice and warm. It really warmed my heart to hear them say this of me. But ya, all my group people were really nice!! I love Ondeh Ondeh!! We all rock!!
There’s this guy in my group, he’s called Shawn and he looks a little like the UOB Shawn! Small sized, 165cm tall and 47kg light. And he’s very funny, cos he got many nick names in 3 days! Kay kiang, gossip king, slowpoke etc. Yup my impression of him really changed a lot since the 1st day of camp. He looks like the nerd nerd kind, the kind that’s not very on. But after talking to him, and getting to know him better, I realized that he’s quite funky actually. And I could really click well with him lor. Which is good. =)
Yup, overall I had a lot of fun at this camp. It was not as hiong as I thought it would be. And the activities were all pretty well-organised and varied so we had a lot of fun. I am definitely interested to join Rovers le. Only sad thing is that the interaction is really among the OG and I din really get to talk to other people outside of my og. Yup. But at least I know some people in NUS before school starts =)
